Become a Better Leader Today.

As you prepare yourself to become a better leader, use the following guidelines to help you grow:

1. Let go of your ego The truly great leaders are not in leadership for personal gain. They lead in order to serve other people. Perhaps that is why Lawrence D. Bell remarked, "Show me a man who cannot bother to do little things, and I'll show you a man who cannot be trusted to do big things." 2. Become a good follower first Rare is the effective leader who didn't learn to become a good follower first. That is why a leadership institution such as the United States Military Academy teaches its officers to become effective followers first - and why West Point has produced more leaders than the Harvard Business School. 3. Build positive relationships Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less. That means it is by nature relational. Today's generation of leaders seem particularly aware of this because title and position mean so little to them. They know intuitively that people go along with people they get along with. 4. Work with excellence No one respects and follows mediocrity. Leaders who earn the right to lead give their all to what they do. They bring into play not only their skills and talents, but also great passion and hard work They perform on the highest level of which they are capable. 5. Rely on discipline, not emotion Leadership is often easy during the good times. It's when everything seems to be against you - when you're out of energy, and you don't want to lead - that you earn your place as a leader. During every season of life, leaders face crucial moments when they must choose between gearing up or giving up. To make it through those times, rely on the rock of discipline, not the shifting sand of emotion. 6. Make adding value your goal When you look at the leaders whose names are revered long after they have finished leading, you find that they were men and women who helped people to live better lives and reach their potential. That is the highest calling of leadership - and its highest value. 7. Give your power away One of the ironies of leadership is that you become a better leader by sharing whatever power you have, not by saving it all for yourself. You're meant to be a river, not a reservoir. If you use your power to empower others, your leadership will extend far beyond your grasp.

TIDE Highlights or Talking Points

Four Tide Swimmers have made NISCA Academic All-American: Joe Mullvain, Josh Werling, Haleigh Thomas, and Maggie Ezdon. Two other Tide Swimmers have also made WISCA Academic All-State: Nick Fillbach and Cherrelle Phon.

All-American is a Cumulative GPA of 3.75 for 7 semesters and All-State is 3.5 for 7 Semesters.

Were are they going next year? Joe has been accepted to Minnesota and Wisconsin. Josh; Naval Academy or Coast Guard Academy. Nick; DePaul, Gustavs Adolphs and several others. Haleigh; Marquette University. Maggie Ezdon; UW-Whitewater. Cherrelle; Beloit College. Rebecca Wentworth; UW-Platteville. 


Varsity GPA for this school year 2010-2011. Lady Tide 3.76 NISCA National Gold Award 6th year in a row. Tide 3.73 Silver Award. Also number of athletes swimming Middle School thru High School is up again. Total Program 6th - 12th grade, boys and girls is over 100.


Middle School Boys have won their conference meet the last two seasons and a total of 3 times since 2002. The Middle School Girls have won the conference meet the last three seasons.

This was never an issue.
I have confirmed this with both Mr. Johnson and Mr. Ferger.


This is one of the Great Programs that makes Beloit Great.
We have outstanding Participation and Academics, at all Levels.


So let your school board member know how you feel about our Great Program, before they do get any Ideas.

The 3rd Day is always the Toughest

Jose finally got to swim. He swam a lift-time best in the 100 back 1:02.38, this is 1 second improvement over is life-time best from the WIAA sectional meet.
He also split a 57.1 in the 400 free relay.


Christian swam a 59.9 in the 100 back all though it is a little slower than his best it is his 3rd time under a minute. He also split a 53.9 on the 400 free relay. His 200 IM was .2 slower than his WIAA sectional time., but not bad for his 3rd full day of swimming.


It was a Great State Meet for all TIDE swimmers.


Remember BATs start practice April 4 at Beloit College. If we are going to make serious improvement in the next year, we need to be in the water. Summer TIDE starts June 13 at Krueger Pool.

CENTRAL ZONE CUT

Christian finished 14th in the 200 Breast 2:16.86 (1:07.00/1:09.86).

Three seconds faster than his life-time best prelim time.

His time is a 15-16 age group AAA time, which is a Central Zone Cut (Age Group Nationals).

Day Two USA Swimming Wisconsin State Meet

Day two was a very good day for Christian Daniels.
2nd leg of 200 Free Relay 23.60.


200 Back 2:07.98, 1 second improvement over his time from two weeks ago.

200 Breaststroke 2:19.34  8 second improvement over his life-time best. Qualified for the 'B' Final.

Back leg of the 400 Medley Relay 59.30.


Christian will swim tonight. Finals start at 5pm. Will keep you posted on Results.

Daniels Day One WI USA State

Christian swam the backstroke leg of the BAT 200 Medley Relay split a 27.39. Relay swam a 1:45.17.
In the 100 Breaststroke he split a 29.5 on his way to a 1:03.95, this was a huge improvement from his life-time best of 1:07.1.


400 I.M. will be swam in about an hour. Will post results ASAP.
He just got done Christian swam a 4:31.75, an 8 second improvement. Splits Fly 1:01.76, Back 1:09.59, Breast 1:16.13 and Free 1:04.27.
He finished 22 in the 100 breast and 17th in the 400 IM 15-16 age-group.
Christian swims 200 Back and Breast Saturday.

Good Luck!!

Good Luck to Christian Daniels(15) and Jose Cardenas(14) as they start swimming Friday in the Wisconsin USA Swimming State Championships. These Tide swimmers swim for the Beloit Aquatic Team. Christian is qualified in the 200 and 400 IM's, the 100 and  200 Backstrokes, the 100 and 200 Breaststrokes. Jose is swimming the 100 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle. 


The State Meet is at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer Wisconsin. The meet starts today with the 1650 Free and the 800 Free Relays.


The Owner and Head Coach of the Schroeder Center is Matt Miller Purple Tide Class of 1993. Matt was a All-State and All-American swimmer at Beloit Memorial. He went on to Kenyon College were he would win 13 NCAA Titles.
