New Record

Today was our annual Timed Mile/5000 swim.
It has been a tradition on our team on the last practice of the year to do a timed mile or 5000yd. Swim.

Christian Daniels(11) broke the team record for the 5000 yard swim, 1hour 25 seconds. His 1st mile was 19:53.

The old record was held by Mike McNulty (class of 2010) of 1hr 2minutes set in 2009.

Joe Garetson swam his 5k in 1hr 6minutes, Tyler Dirksen 1hr. 9.

Great Job Today!!

The Tide ends the year strong with a lot of life time best swims.

The Tide is back in action Thursday January 5th at the Rock County Challenge at Janesville Craig 5:30, Friday January 6th at Middleton, and Saturday January 7 at Soughton for the College Events Meet.

Do We Really Need a POOL?!?

This what happens when you don't take care of what we have.

What it should look like.

To answer question, YES!!!!

Saturday, December 24, 2011

Updated Purple Tide Logo

I would like to Thank Kalyan class of 2000, the Tide Alum swimmer who design the Purple Tide Logo.
Kalyan update our Logo, digitizing our logo making it more computer friendly. He really did a nice job of cleaning up and adding additional features.

Now What???

The School Board after a very long discussion, pass the motion to send the plan to referendum. $70 million dollars is a lot of money. Our opponents are going to focus on the pool, which is a small part of the $70 million. This is about the future of Beloit and our schools infrastructure. Yes we need a new pool, but we need new roofs, space in our grade schools, etc....

So when you talk about the referendum, focus on the future, classrooms, keeping up the infrastructure, the swimming pool is a classroom first.

Our work is just beginning, we now need to sell this to the public. Be positive about everything, including your opponents. Take the higher ground, write letters to the editor, comment on the Daily News web-site.

Think through what you want to say before you say it.

Also Get Out and Vote in April.

We are 4 months away from our DREAM!!

2001-2011 Some History

2001
High School Boys Swim Team: 11 Swimmers.
High School Girls Swim Team:  19 Swimmers.
No Middle School Program, Intro Middle School Team (2weeks) 30 Swimmers.
No Krueger Summer Swim Team ( Summer Tide).
No Swimmers on the Beloit Aquatic Team.
1st Learn to Swim Like the Purple Tide 80 Beginning Level Learn to Swim.

2011
High School Boys Swim Team: 35
High School Girls Swim Team: 33 (7 NISCA National Academic Gold Awards)
Middle School Boys Swim Team: 30 (4 Conference Titles)
Middle School Girls Swim Team: 80 (3 Conference Titles)
Krueger Summer Swim Team: 150 Swimmers
Learn to Swim like the Purple Tide: 125 learn to swim program.

Before 2001, the swim teams always relied on the Beloit Aquatic Team. As their team demographics change, less kids from Beloit were swimming for the BAT's, this had a major impact on our program. So the coaches at Beloit Memorial had to make a major culture change in our swimming community. We started the Middle School Swim Team, Krueger Summer Swim Team and the Learn to Swim like the Purple Tide lesson program. Swimming is COOL again in Beloit. This past year over 250 swimmers in Beloit call themselves TIDE!!.

Thank You to all the Coaches who help make these changes: Coach Andre DeKok, Coach Kim Waite (Orr), Coach Stacy Johannson, Coach Katie Detling, Coach Jacob Truby, Coach Abby Vogel, Coach Leah Prins, Coach Ashley Culver, Coach Matt Christidis, Coach Barb Butz, and to all of our Volunteer Swimming Teachers.

Also a BIG Thank You to all of the Parents and Swimmers who have made this all possible. We are getting closer to getting Beloit back on Top of the State in Swimming.

Go TIDE!!

Happy Holidays

The Seven Rules of Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs' impact on your life cannot be overestimated. His innovations have likely touched nearly every aspect -- computers, movies, music and mobile. As a communications coach, I learned from Jobs that a presentation can, indeed, inspire. For entrepreneurs, Jobs' greatest legacy is the set of principles that drove his success.
Over the years, I've become a student of sorts of Jobs' career and life. Here's my take on the rules and values underpinning his success. Any of us can adopt them to unleash our "inner Steve Jobs."
1. Do what you love. Jobs once said, "People with passion can change the world for the better." Asked about the advice he would offer would-be entrepreneurs, he said, "I'd get a job as a busboy or something until I figured out what I was really passionate about." That's how much it meant to him. Passion is everything.
2. Put a dent in the universe. Jobs believed in the power of vision. He once asked then-Pepsi President, John Sculley, "Do you want to spend your life selling sugar water or do you want to change the world?" Don't lose sight of the big vision.
3. Make connections. Jobs once said creativity is connecting things. He meant that people with a broad set of life experiences can often see things that others miss. He took calligraphy classes that didn't have any practical use in his life -- until he built the Macintosh. Jobs traveled to India and Asia. He studied design and hospitality. Don't live in a bubble. Connect ideas from different fields.
4. Say no to 1,000 things. Jobs was as proud of what Apple chose not to do as he was of what Apple did. When he returned in Apple in 1997, he took a company with 350 products and reduced them to 10 products in a two-year period. Why? So he could put the "A-Team" on each product. What are you saying "no" to?
5. Create insanely different experiences. Jobs also sought innovation in the customer-service experience. When he first came up with the concept for the Apple Stores, he said they would be different because instead of just moving boxes, the stores would enrich lives. Everything about the experience you have when you walk into an Apple store is intended to enrich your life and to create an emotional connection between you and the Apple brand. What are you doing to enrich the lives of your customers?
6. Master the message. You can have the greatest idea in the world, but if you can't communicate your ideas, it doesn't matter. Jobs was the world's greatest corporate storyteller. Instead of simply delivering a presentation like most people do, he informed, he educated, he inspired and he entertained, all in one presentation.
7. Sell dreams, not products. Jobs captured our imagination because he really understood his customer. He knew that tablets would not capture our imaginations if they were too complicated. The result? One button on the front of an iPad. It's so simple, a 2-year-old can use it. Your customers don't care about your product. They care about themselves, their hopes, their ambitions. Jobs taught us that if you help your customers reach their dreams, you'll win them over.
There's one story that I think sums up Jobs' career at Apple. An executive who had the job of reinventing the Disney Store once called up Jobs and asked for advice. His counsel? Dream bigger. I think that's the best advice he could leave us with. See genius in your craziness, believe in yourself, believe in your vision, and be constantly prepared to defend those ideas.
