Last 10 years of BTIDE Program

The BTIDE program made a huge shift in 1996 when the coaching staff noticed a shift in demographics of Beloit Swimming. Most of the swimmers with the Beloit Aquatic Team lived in Illinois and they were using our facilities and their program was no longer benefiting Beloit swimming. In the late 1990's there were less than 40 kids in Beloit who called themselves swimmers.

Summer of 1996 we started the Learn to Swim like the Purple TIDE swim lesson program, that lasted for many years till about 2010. After many proposals to start a middle school swim team program; in 2000 we started the Middle TIDE swim teams. We had 10 boys and 19 girls on the first teams.  Before the Covid-19 pandemic we had over 90 girls and 40 boys on our middle school teams. Our high school boys and girls teams have grown to over 70 swimmers and divers each year.

In the summer of 2006 we started the Krueger Summer swim team with 20 swimmers, in less than 5 years we were over 200 swimmers. 2013 the BTIDE USA Swim program started with the opening of the new high school natatorium.

The success of the last two decades has help the TIDE program become a formable force both in the State and Nation, for both school and club swimming.

We will over come the recent world crisis and Beloit swimming will continue to be a strong program for the youth of the Beloit community.

BTIDE Women Finish Season Strong

WIAA State Qualifiers 2021

After being out of the water for 466 days our Women's team got their season and took full of advantage of swimming for the first time in well over a year. Because of Covid and some senior swimmers graduating early the team numbers were down. The TIDE finished the season with 24 team members.

The team still had a great season with our freshman and other young swimmers taking full advantage of their new opportunities.

We did some pretty amazing swimming for an eight week season, finishing with a dual meet record of two wins and 3 loses. Qualifying 4 swimmers for the WIAA State meet and breaking 6 school Varsity records.

The TIDE hosted the WIAA sub sectional meet, swimming 100% season best times with well of 90% lifetime best swims. Not bad for a short season and the amount of time we spent out of the pool.

Season Summary:

End of Regular Season Summary Middleton Diving & Battle on the Rock

1st before I get into the weekend summary. We had an excellent week of practice. I also BELIEVE that we are going to have a Great Championship Season.

WE MUST REST AND KEEP REGULAR ROUTINES FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS.

Friday:

DJ Nora dove at the Middleton Diving Invitational and did his first ever 11 dive meet. I believe that he did an excellent performance. He finished 23rd of 25, but he dove better than at least 5-6 divers ahead of him. He dove much cleaner and technically better. Because this is his first year his degree of difficulty is not as high. So even though he dove though other divers were crashing and even fail diving their DD was much higher and that was the difference. Three Dive coaches from other schools came over to him and told him we how impressed they were with is skill in such a short period of time. They also believe like I do, that he has great talent and ability.
So Look out for DJ in the Future.

Saturday:
Though we were not able to defend our Title, I believe it was our best meet since January 9th's Rock County Championship meet.

I felt our Start, Turns and Racing was much improved. With Conference and Sectionals soon upon us, I know we are in a very good place. NOW we need to just stay Healthy.

Meet Highlights:

200 Medley Relay:
A Relay 1st Place: 1:43.90; Ben Saladar, Anthony Jacobson, Kana Wong, CJ Light

200 IM 1st Place 2:03.46 Anthony Jacobson

50 Free 6th 24.70 Eli Miller

100 Fly 2nd Ben Saladar, 6th Kana Wong, 7th Ben Sill

100 Free 3rd CJ Light

200 Free Relay: 4th; A Relay 1:38.61 CJ Light, Caleb Otto, Ben Sill, Eli Miller

100 Back: 2nd Ben Saladar 56.09 5th Fastest in school history

100 Breast: 1st Anthony Jacobson 1:03.45  9th Fastest in school history, 8th Kana Wong

400 Free Relay: 1st A Relay Ben Saladar, CJ Light, Ben Sill, Anthony Jacobson 3:27.62
8th B Relay: Matt Locke, Caleb Otto, Kai Wong, Eli Miller

Weekend of Downs and Ups

This past week was a great learning experience for our men.

Thursday night was our make up meet with Madison Memorial and Janesville Craig at Craig.

I always believe that we need to move our men around in the line-up to prevent staleness and plateau effect. The hope is for our swimmers to understand that this is an opportunity to find out they might find out they are better at other events.  Example: Kia Wong becoming a very good backstroke swimmer and Kana becoming a solid breaststroke swimmer.

Though we lost to Craig Thursday night, I believe we learned a lot about ourselves and this will have great benefits for us in February.

Highlights from Thursday:

200 Free: CJ Light 1:59.0 . Kia Wong 2:10

50 Free: 1st Place Ben Saladar 22.34 Eli Miller Medley Relay Split 23.8.

100 Free: 1st Place Ben Saladar 50.08 . Eli Miller Relay Split 54.5, Kana Wong 56.44, Kia Wong 56.55. Anthony Jacobson 49.70

200 Free Relay: 1st Place 'A' Relay: Ben Saladar, Caleb Otto, Ben Sill, CJ Light 1:36.

100 Back: 1st Place: Anthony Jacobson 57.1

100 Breast: 1st Place CJ Light

Friday Night we swam Middleton and Madison LaFollette. Before we left for the meet we spent 15 minutes doing some team bonding and mental training. We swam stronger mentally and learning form the night before.

Highlights from Friday night:

1st Place Medley Relay: A Relay: Ben Saladar, Kana Wong,
                                                        Ben Sill, CJ Light

Rock County Championship (sorry it's Late) Summary

Last Thursday the Knights defended their Title for the 5th time. Winning the Rock County Championship.

It was a total team effort, with all swimmers scoring and our number 3 and 4th swimmers coming through big time. The TIDE has graduated a lot of swimmers in the last two years. Our young kids had to step up and they really came through with some outstanding swims. Three freshman scored points in the top 8 and showed great strength through out the meet.

The Knights were lead by double individual winners; Ben Saladar (100 Fly and 100 Back), Anthony Jacobson (200 IM and 100 Breast) and CJ Light in the 50 Free. The Knights also won the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relays. The 200 Free Relays A & B finished 3rd & 4th.
In the 200 Medley Relay the TIDE showed great depth, finishing 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th. Teaching our kids to be great all around swimmers has paid off great dividends, as the Knights dominated the skill events (200 IM, 100 Fly, 100 Back, and 100 Breaststroke).

The Knights next meet is Friday at Sun Prairie and
Saturday at the Manitowoc Invite.

Weekend Summary 12/13 and 12/14 Solid Meets

Very Solid weekend of swimming, we really came together, after a very strong week of practice. The Knights downed Janesville Parker and gave defending state champions Madison West all they could handle. In swimming you can not judge a score by how close the meet was. There were incredible close races all night. The TIDE took 3 overall 1st places in the meet Friday.

Ben Saladar and Anthony Jacobson took home those wins for the Knights, with CJ Light getting a 2nd in the 100 Free and Saladar also picking up a 2nd place in the 100 back. Against Parker, Beloit took 1st in 7 of the 11 events. Our number 3 swimmer in each individual event scored points in 7 of 8 individual events. The Relays out scored Parker's Relays 26-16.

Our underclassmen really stepped up last night and out swam Parker's underclassmen.
